What's New For The 2019 Transit & Transit Connect

You can expect updates on both of these Ford vans. For the Ford Transit, long-wheelbase models have new hinges for wider door openings, making loading and unloading cargo much simpler than before. The Ford Transit features and the trim lineup has also been shuffled a bit compared to previous model years.

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect has even more to offer this year, starting with new gas and diesel engine options. A brand new eight-speed automatic transmission combines speedy performance with modern fuel economy. This year, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration technology are standard on most Transit Connect trim levels, which of course is good news for smartphone addicts. The forward collision warning system with pedestrian detection is now standard, so every Transit Connect trim can actively help you avoid danger.

Which Trims & Features are Available for 2019?

The 2019 Ford Transit is a full-size cargo van that's available as a single trim level. However, this single trim is highly configurable, with standard- and long-wheelbase options available as well as low-, medium-, and high-roof body styles. Its long list of standard comfort and convenience features include full power accessories and front air conditioning. The Transit even comes with a rearview camera, which helps you maneuver this big vehicle through tight spaces.

The Transit Connect is a smaller commercial van that's available as two models: the Cargo Van and passenger Wagon. The Cargo Van is available in two trim levels: XL and XLT. The Wagon adds an extra trim level, the more upscale Titanium. The XL gives you an impressive amount of modern convenience, thanks to its standard air conditioning and a rearview camera. The mid-grade XLT offers more options, such as LED cargo area lights and adaptive cruise control. The wagon-only Titanium trim has all the creature comforts, including leather seats and automatic climate control, which means it can even work as a family-style minivan.

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

To optimize efficiency, upgrade to the turbocharged 3.2-liter diesel-powered five-cylinder engine. It produces 185 horses and 350 pound-feet of torque for a strong performance. A turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, rated for 310 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque, is also available.

There are two Transit Connect engine options. The first is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which pumps out 162 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque. This engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. The optional 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine is expected to give drivers a little extra fuel economy. However, engine output figures have yet to be released.

Ford Transit and Transit Connect Safety Features

In the Ford Transit, you'll find side wind stabilization technology, which actually uses the brakes to counteract strong winds, such as when you're traveling on bridges and highways. The lane keeping alert system helps you stay between the proper white lines. During a side-collision, Ford Safety Canopy inflates the side curtain airbags to protect front occupants' heads.

As we mentioned, the smaller Transit Connect now comes standard with front collision warning. This commercial van also offers a long list of safety options, including blind-spot monitoring and lane keeping assist. The active park assist feature can even help you ease your Transit Connect into an especially tight spot, worry-free.
