The next-gen Explorer offers a variety of changes, from new styling to updated technologies and the addition of a new top-level Platinum trim! Starting on the outside, Ford has incorporated a new grille design and updated rear styling elements that contribute to greater aerodynamics. Washers are included on both the front- and back-mounted cameras, in a segment-first move, and several new tech features have been thrown in the pot too, including a hands-free liftgate, smart-charging USB port and first-of-its-kind Sony Audio System (standard on new Platinum series) that Ford says brings home-theater quality sound to the streets.
Inside, the 2016 Explorer features upgraded materials throughout and redesigned seats that offer greater legroom in the back row and more overall comfort. Moving under the hood, there is a brand-new turbo four-cylinder EcoBoost option, as well as other engine choices including a 290-horsepower V-6 and a 365-horsepower turbo V-6 on Explorer Sport and Platinum trim levels.
In addition to a high-end 500-watt Sony Audio System and turbo V-6 engine, the new 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum grade receives several luxury touches, such as attractive wood trim on the steering wheel and door and instrument panels. The panels also include brushed-aluminum trim, which further amplifies the refined presence of the interior. On the steering wheel and for the very first time ever on a Ford, there’s a brushed-aluminum Ford emblem. As far as features, shoppers can expect the Explorer Platinum to offer lane-keeping assist, rain-sensing wipers, a 10-inch infotainment interface and much more.
