What are the Important Service Milestones?
Keeping your Ford running in tip-top shape is not as easy as it sounds. Routine maintenance is needed to make sure that there are no issues with your Ford and that there are no potential ways for you to cause an accident. Keeping up with maintenance is important because it saves you the hassle of having to replace different components of the engine in the long run and could really save you a lot of money in the long run. Also, it is important to let trained professionals complete the maintenance to ensure that everything goes exactly the way that it is supposed to so that you will not be out of a vehicle.
15,000-Mile Service
By 15,000 miles most cars are due for their first in-depth service. There are several different things that the mechanic will check. One of these will definitely be the oil and the oil filter. This is needed because little bits of debris and metal can get inside of the oil filter, which can really rough up an engine fast. Your tires should also need a rotation to keep the vehicle running smoothly and the tires properly balanced and aligned. The mechanic may also check out your brakes and cooling systems, but at 15,000, there should not be anything that needs to be done to these parts, unless it’s something minor.
30,000-Mile Service
At 30,000 miles, there are a few more things added to the maintenance list. The mechanic will check the same things from the 15,000 service, however, he will added on the air filters and the fuel filters. The air filter is important to keep a check on because if your air filter is clogged, the engine cannot “breathe.” This can really hit your engine hard and can really impact your vehicle’s overall performance. The fuel filter will be checked to see if it is clogged. If the fuel filter gets clogged, your vehicle will either run rough and tough, or it will not run at all. Our mechanic will perform a pressure test to see if there are any clogs and if there are any found, they will replace your fuel filter.
60,000-Mile Service
60,000 miles is when the service usually gets a little bit more thorough. There are other things added to the checklist now. They include different belts and hoses, sometimes even different spark plugs, too. Some of the things that can be checked this time include things in the brakes department. The brake fluid should be checked to see if it has been contaminated. If it has, it’ll need to be changed out. Brake pads will need to be checked, especially if you have been hearing a screeching sound when you apply the brakes. Brake Rotors should be looked at as well. You’ll spend more money replacing rather than re-surfacing them.
The transmission fluid needs to be checked as well to prevent shifting problems.
90,000-Mile Service
The service at 90,000 is the ultimate check up on a vehicle. This check will include all of the same checks from the other previous mileage checks, but this time our mechanic will check hoses and your spark plugs and ignition systems, too. The hoses that carry the coolant and power steering fluid need to be check for any cracks or holes in the rubber. The power steering fluid will also need to be checked to prevent hard steering and noisy driving.
The spark plugs and ignition should be checked more frequently now since the vehicle will be getting closer to 100,000 miles. The mechanic checks this by plugging a laptop up to the vehicle and a code will come up to help the mechanic better diagnose your vehicle quickly. The timing belt should be checked or replaced by this point as well. A belt issue can make your engine go down quickly. Getting this checked will prevent irreversible damage later on with more mileage.
