Across North America, certain species of yellow sac spiders have wreaked havoc for car owners. They’re known to build dense cocoon-like webs in the fuel vapor lines of cars, which results in poor performance and engine damage in some cases. While Ford has included spider screens on its vehicles since 2004, the automaker is always looking for ways to further improve and adapt its technologies.
That’s where the company’s team of Spider-Men come into play. The mere thought of arachnids finding their way into a vapor line opening got their spider senses tingling, so they’ve been taking a deeper look at how to keep spiders from nesting in cars. The insect-fighting team of engineers have evolved Ford’s former spider screen, recently developing a new, more advanced device which will debut with the all-new 2016 Ford Focus RS that’s scheduled to hit our dealership next year.
Having a clear fuel vapor line is important because it enables proper air and vapor circulation in a car’s carbon canister, which is where fuel vapors that would otherwise enter the environment are captured. The new screen enables proper air and vapor flow and helps maximize vehicle performance and protect car engines while doing so.
This is yet another example of the level of thought that goes into every detail of Ford’s cars! Keep an eye out for the Focus RS next year and rest assured that villainous arachnids won’t have anywhere to hide thanks to Ford’s amazing spider screen!
