What's New for the Ford F-450?
It's quite hard to imagine how anyone would need something more than a one-ton pickup like the Ford F-350, but there's actually a market for such a truck, and Ford made sure they have an entry in that segment -- the monstrous F-450.
Ford's pickup truck lineup is pretty simple to follow. As the numbers get bigger, the trucks follow suit. The 2019 Ford F-450 represents the biggest of the non-commercial range. Equipped properly, the F-450 can tow up to 34,000 lbs.
For the 2019 year model, the new F-450 comes with a new Lariat Sport package, regular-cab configuration on some levels, and the Sony stereo had been replaced by a Bank & Olufsen Play stereo. The 2019 Ford F-450 is part of the third generation of the Super Duty range introduced in 2017.
Which Features are Available?
The new F-450 is available in six trim levels all in all: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. This powerful truck comes in two cab configurations: crew cab and regular (XL and XLT only). Both configs have a dual-rear-wheel axle and an 8.2-ft bed.
The Lariat trim is a nice middle ground between unattainable and utilitarian and includes some impressive features such as power-adjustable pedals, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, 8.0-inch touchscreen display, 10-speaker sound system, and 10-way electric leather seats. Some optional features include power-extending side mirrors, LED box lighting, and heated and cooled front seats.
If you want more upscale features, the Limited can provide all those with its full suite of active safety gear, twin-panel sunroof, wood interior trim, and LED headlights.
Some of the standard features available on the upper trim levels are available as options on the lower trims. Some add-ons are worth your while, including a spray-in bed liner, trailer tire-pressure monitoring, a separate rearview camera that can be attached on a trailer, and a fifth-wheel/gooseneck hitch prep package.
Robust Performance
The F-450 is powered by a turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel V8 that produces an impressive 450 horsepower and 935 lbs-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard and there is an optional four-wheel drive. The truck's huge engine and chassis make it capable of taking on just about anything. You can use it to take the family out or to haul huge things, and you still find a responsive train and offer you a smooth ride. Its powerful engine can handle the heaviest requests a driver can ever need: you'll feel a brief pause as the turbos gain speed, then a strong wave of torque follows. Whether you're driving in the highway, off-road, or towing, the power delivery of the F-450 remains unchanged.
At first, the pedal feedback will feel wooden and a bit grabby, but the rest of the travel will prove a smoother ride. This might not be the expectations of many, but when you apply more force, the F-450 will never fail to respond.
2019 Ford F-450 Safety Features
To help keep the trailer and truck stable, the F-450 comes with a Trailer Sway Control and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. With the selective wheel braking, this ensures that the passengers are kept safe in spite of rough terrains and high winds. Drivers will be able to control their speed on inclines and hills using the diesel engine exhaust braking and the Trailer Reverse Guidance System makes it easy to back up with a hitched trailer. Other advanced safety features include collision warning system and adaptive cruise control. The F-450 is also compatible with communications systems such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa.
