The holiday season is not only a time when friends and family show their loved ones how much they're cared for, but also a time when many people volunteer to help those who are less fortunate. In keeping with this spirit, the Ford Volunteer Corp organized a nationwide charitable effort on Dec. 12, the company's Accelerated Action Day. Over 50 different volunteer projects took place and more than $91,000 in Ford Fund grants helped the company's volunteer organization acquire food and other materials needed for charitable work.

Ford employees across the country took part in Accelerated Action Day, teaming up with local nonprofits to help the needy. Providing meals was a central focus, as one in six Americans (49 million people a year) is affected by hunger. Activities included assembling and distributing emergency food packages, preparing and serving holiday lunch to residents in emergency shelters, serving holiday lunch to the homeless, restocking food pantries, installing food pantry shelving and much more.
"Through our volunteer efforts and nonprofit partnerships, our fleet of Ford Mobile Food Pantries and the generous donations of so many, we hope to ease that struggle not just over the holidays but throughout the year," said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Volunteer Corps.
