Specs at a Glance
The 2025 Ford Explorer remains one of the most sought-after SUVs in its category. Families appreciate the Explorer's versatile design. It delivers spacious seating and cargo room while offering an array of the latest features. Let's explore how the Explorer Active and Explorer Platinum compare.
Performance
A 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine powers both trims, delivering 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for superior performance. While rear-wheel drive is standard, an optional 4WD system is available for more adventurous driving. When properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,300 pounds.
The Explorer Platinum also offers an additional engine option: Ford's powerful 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. This engine generates 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, increasing the Explorer's towing capacity to 5,600 pounds and delivering faster acceleration.
Appearance
The Explorer Active presents a stylish upgrade over the base model, with standard 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. Several exterior colors are available, including Agate Black Metallic and Star White Metallic Tri-Coat.
The Explorer Platinum shares some of these styling cues but has larger 20-inch alloy wheels and a unique grille, giving it a more commanding presence.
Features
Drivers will appreciate the Explorer Active's standard features, including the new Google-powered Ford Digital Experience infotainment system, featuring a 13.2-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Heated front seats and three-zone automatic climate control enhance comfort. Other features include a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, keyless start, and a digital instrument cluster.
For those seeking more luxury, the Platinum trim adds ventilated front seats with massage, a 980-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, a wireless phone charger, leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof.
