Staying away from crowds of people isn't always easy. Not only can it impact your social life, but work-life can be affected too. With the spread of the coronavirus, many people find themselves working from home. To stay both mentally and physically healthy, there are a few suggestions that can help.

1. Create a Routine

It doesn't matter what your schedule is, just as long as you have one. Creating a routine with designated time frames to help you stay on track is one way to keep a sense of normalcy to life. Experiencing a change in lifestyle can be upsetting for anyone. Being able to stay on task is one way to keep a part of what feels comfortable. Whether it's reading, going for a walk or even talking on the phone, scheduling it in can make a huge difference in how we feel about the day and what we want to get accomplished.

2. Try Something New

Having a hobby can make time pass quickly. If you don't already have a hobby, think about trying something new. There are many online videos that can teach you how to crochet, make origami, play a certain video game or successfully build furniture from recycled goods. No matter what you're interested in, the internet is a great resource for finding free online videos that are great for instruction. If you don't know what kind of hobby you might be interested in, browsing art or construction forums can be a good place to start.

3. Get In Shape

While going to the gym may not be possible, you can still workout at home. Investing in free weights or dumbbells can help you bulk up in the comfort of your own home. Cardio workouts do not require any equipment at all. To increase your heart rate, dancing to your favorite playlist or even doing three sets of 20 jumping jacks can be beneficial to your cardiovascular system. To tone muscles while incorporating a mindfulness approach, there are many free yoga videos online that can be streamed from almost anywhere. A soft carpet or matt may be beneficial for certain poses but is not necessary for all.

4. Roll the Windows Down

Whether you're driving by yourself down a country road or inside your living room working on a laptop, opening the windows can connect you to nature. Fresh air and direct sunlight are important for mental health. When exposed to the outdoors, you are in close proximity to other life. By simply opening a window, you can be close to others without necessarily putting yourself at risk.

5. Talk to Friends

Chatting online or using social media is an effective way to stay in touch with the people you care about. Chatting on the phone can be even better. Hearing other people talk can be better at curing boredom than staring at a screen. The social norms of communicating are slightly different. When using the phone, you can easily talk in real-time about real issues. Social distancing can be tough. For many people, isolation is not a natural state of being.
